We were charged with restoring this lovely little Mason & Hamlin portable reed organ, Style 110 “Baby”. It had not been played or heard for many decades due to the deterioration of the rubber cloth used on the bellows. The older date found in the organ was 1885. The serial number seems to confirm that year of manufacture.

Our job was to restore the instrument by recovering the bellows, cleaning all reeds in an ultrasonic bath, replace all the felt and leather valve facings, and repair a couple cracks in the soundboard. We also touched-up the case with some fresh shellac to smooth out the crackled finish that formed over the years.

This delightful sounding instrument was extremely expressive and a thorough joy to play!
